Losing your Virginity

In western society virginity has now become an old-fashioned notion. Young girls and women are allowed to have sex without getting married and males also do the same.

It is thought that due to this freedom people are more mature and understand how to deal with different situations and different times. But, there are some families in the west who still believe that engaging in sexual activities before marriage is a sin and hold on to their religious beliefs.

Virginity and the Catholic Church

The Catholic Church is the most popular promoter of virginity. The catholic preachers preach that all the young girls are the daughters of Virgin Mary and should remain virgins before getting married.

They are giving an example of Mary, who is the most immaculate and pure of all women and teach young girls and women to follow her and live their lives as she did, in a pure and pristine manner.

The girls and women are not taught to prohibit from having sex, but are prohibited to have premarital sex. Married woman are respected in a society, but unmarried woman who decide to remain virgins throughout their lives are considered very sacred and sanctified.

Virgin ladies are given high status and respect in a community of Catholics. The Catholic Church while emphasizing the importance of virginity through Virgin Mary and also tell the people of their community about Canonizing St. Maria Goretti, who gave her life while fighting a rapist. She preferred death on losing her virginity.

Virginity in the ancient era

In the ancient era, the Catholic Church used to impose harsh punishments on women and men who engaged in sexual activities before marriage, but nowadays modernism has diminished such practices of killing a human being for having premarital sex.

Due to western modernism, Catholic girls are not harmed brutally on losing their virginity, but even today there are certain cultures where women cannot have sex or interact with the opposite sex freely.

Religious punishments

Especially in countries where people of Hindu religion live, their girls cannot go outside freely and meet with any random guy and have sex.

They live in a very closed environment before marriage and after marriage they are totally committed to their husbands and cannot think of any other man as their sexual partner. Even, after marriage if the husband dies, they are supposed to live their life alone and are commonly called as a Sati.

In the early times, satis were supposed to burn themselves along with their husbands and sometimes they were thrown in the fire without their consent and in doing so, it was thought that she is honoring the commitment she made with her husband when she married him and will not see the face of another man again.

This custom was abolished with time, but it is still practiced in a different manner and is commonly known as Jauhar or Jouhar. This ritual is basically practiced on a large scale and the widows kill themselves while thinking that their husbands have died and how can they live on happily in their lives without them.

In India, such practices are considered illegal now, but there are many fundamental groups where certain practices are still followed. However, premarital chastity is treasured in Hinduism even today.

In Islamic cultures, premarital chastity is of great importance. It is one of the teachings of Islam to not indulge in habits that are unholy. Muslim women and men cannot have sex before marriage.

Both the males and females lose their virginity at the night of their marriage according to Islamic rules and regulations.

The presence of hymen is the proof of the virtuosity of a female. And people either men or women engaging in such illegal activities are disliked by Almighty Allah.

Virginity in western cultures

The modern western societies don’t believe in such laws that prohibit them from doing what they want and what they like except of some societies such as Catholics who give great importance to premarital chastity.

Above all, it is very important as to how an individual thinks about the whole scenario and everybody comes in this world as a free individual and can choose their own direction either good or bad.
